Our mission is to care for the physical needs of some of Haiti's most fragile children while empowering their mothers through health education, agriculture training, and small business opportunities.

The Problem

1 in 5 children in Haiti are undernourished. 1 in 10 are acutely malnourished. With an 80% unemployment rate, and 76% of people living on less than $2 a day, parents must make difficult decisions about their sick and vulnerable children.

Children die needlessly; they are taken to orphanages; they are abandoned at hospitals. But not because they are not loved.

Why go the Second Mile?

Orphanages are not solutions.  We go the second mile, beyond band-aids and hand-outs, towards lasting solutions that lift families from poverty.

We believe that a comprehensive approach to childhood malnutrition, one that involves education, extensive follow-up, preventative strategies, and income-generating projects for parents can break the cycle of poverty and undernutrition.

Our Impact

We treat children with Severe Acute Malnutrition in an  encouraging environment that allows mothers to learn more about their child's condition and participate in their recovery. We believe in women and their potential to overcome obstacles.

Women leave Second Mile with tools to enact lasting change in their families and communities. And kids receive what they need to recover from malnutrition.
